Freedom from Bondage

​Pakistan’s Christian community, around 1.27% of the population (roughly 2.6 million people), is disproportionately represented among brick kiln workers. Due to poverty, social discrimination, and limited access to education and other employment, many Christians find themselves forced into bonded labour. Many of these families have been in these kilns for generations. They're paid extremely low wages — often as little as PKR 800–1200 ($2.8–4.3 USD) per day for making up to 1,000–1,200 bricks.

ENSLAVED CHRISTIAN LABOUR

It typically starts when a poor family borrows a small sum (often for medical expenses, weddings, funerals, or food) from a kiln owner, who then demands they work to repay it. However. The wages are so low and deductions so high that the debt never decreases. Children are often forced to start working alongside their parents from a young age, denying them education. When one generation passes, the debt is transferred to their children, creating intergenerational bondage.

Human Rights Violations:
​Threats, harassment and violence are common to deter workers from escaping. Religious discrimination is a daily reality. Christians are sometimes assigned the harshest, dirtiest jobs.-Women and girls are particularly vulnerable to sexual harassment and assault. Legal Situation: Though Pakistan outlawed bonded labour in 1992, enforcement is weak, and kiln owners wield considerable influence over local police and politicians. The Christian minority’s marginalization exacerbates their vulnerability.

By the grace of God, and through the prayers, generosity, and faithful support of our Christian brothers and sisters, Life in Christ Ministries Pakistan has already helped more than 50 impoverished and vulnerable Christian families obtain freedom from bonded labor.

We give all glory to God for every family that has been released from bondage and given an opportunity to begin a new chapter of life in freedom and dignity. What once seemed impossible has become a testimony of God’s faithfulness and the power of people standing together in prayer and partnership.

At Life in Christ Ministries Pakistan, we are called by God’s love to serve our persecuted and impoverished Christian brothers and sisters working as bonded laborers in brick kilns across Pakistan. These precious families endure unimaginable hardship, trapped in generational bondage with little hope of escape.

Through our ministry, we regularly visit brick kiln communities, holding prayer meetings, sharing the Word of God, and offering spiritual encouragement to strengthen their faith. Alongside this, we distribute food packages and provide financial assistance to help meet their basic needs.

But the burden on our hearts has grown deeper. Our mission is not only to support these families in their suffering, but also to help set them free from the bondage of slavery.

Our work, however, is not finished:

There are currently 30 Christian families still trapped in bonded labor whom we are prayerfully and actively working to help set free. We are making every effort to raise the necessary support and resources so that these families can also experience the freedom and dignity they deserve.

We are raising support locally and seeking faithful brothers and sisters in Christ around the world who will stand with us in this mission. Together, through prayer, compassion, and practical support, we can help change the future of these families.

A New Beginning:

Once freed, these families can begin to rebuild their lives with dignity, freedom, and hope. They can work toward a better future, worship Jesus Christ more freely, and give their children opportunities for education and a brighter tomorrow.
